How much does an electrical Certificate of Compliance cost?
For a standard home in Gauteng that passes, the inspection and certificate land in the range below. The fee pays for testing the installation and issuing the certificate. If something fails, fixing it is quoted separately, and you get that price in writing before we touch it.

These are ranges, not quotes. Where your job falls in the range depends on what we find on site. We are not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add. The price you are quoted is the price you pay.
Call-out rates
A booked visit goes into the next open slot. An emergency call-out is a separate priority service. Both are paid with a 50% deposit online, and the balance after inspection and your agreement.

What moves the price
Size of the installation
A one bedroom flat has a handful of circuits. A four bedroom house with a cottage and a pool has many more, and every one is tested.
How many boards
A second DB board for a cottage, garage or outbuilding means a second full set of tests.
What the records look like
An unlabelled board with no previous certificate takes longer to work through than one that was done properly last time.
Access to the wiring
Roof spaces, locked DB cupboards and built-in boards all slow the testing down.
How long it takes
Two to three hours for a standard home. Larger properties and second boards take longer.
Included
- Testing every circuit in the installation
- The Certificate of Compliance itself, in your name
- A written list of anything that failed, with what it costs to fix
- One return test after repairs are done
Not included
- Repairing whatever fails the inspection, which is quoted once we know what it is
- Replacing a DB board that is too old or too full to be made compliant
- Work on the municipal side of the meter
Questions
Does the CoC price include fixing what fails?
No, and this is the most important thing to understand about CoC pricing. The fee covers testing and issuing the certificate. If a circuit fails, you get a written price for the repair before we start it. Anyone quoting one number for a CoC including repairs, before seeing the installation, is guessing.
What happens if my installation fails?
You get the list of what failed and what each item costs to fix. You can have us do the work or take the list elsewhere. Once the repairs are done we come back, retest and issue the certificate, and that return test is included.
How long is a CoC valid for?
Two years, as long as nothing has changed in the installation. Any work done after the certificate is issued needs its own certificate.
Do I need a new CoC to sell my house?
You need a valid certificate less than two years old that covers the installation as it stands. If yours is older, or work has been done since, you need a new one.
Is there VAT on top of this?
No. We are not VAT registered, so there is nothing to add. The price you are quoted is the price you pay.
